Shadowdancer Variant: The Fire Dancer

You have to accept the Book of Nine Swords as your one true savior (of melee characters who want to be interesting at high level).
Hmm...what if there was a prestige class called "Cleric of the Nine Swords?"

Somebody stop me. Please.

However, please feel free to steal the non-martial adept stuff -- like Skirmish and blur and all that. If you like it. :)
Actually, I think a complete rebuild is in order. Making this class a variant of the Shadowdancer was a mistake, IMO...there is nothing at all stealthy about the word "Fire" or the word "Dancer." I should have given this idea 24 hours before typing and posting it. :heh:

I really like the idea of a graceful, dance-oriented performer, tumbling and twirling about with torches. I really don't like the idea of pet fire creatures, teleportation, hiding in smoke, or pretty much everything else that the Shadowdancer brings to the class. Too much cheese, not enough wine...

So I'm going to abandon this version, and try again later in a new thread. I'm thinking that the Dervish PrC (in Complete Warrior) would be a much better starting-point for this class concept. And even though it would still need a LOT of work, I think the end result would be much closer to what I am trying to do with this class.

But feel free to finish developing this version if you like. My word is by no means the final one on what is and is not a Fire Dancer. If you like it, snag it. :)

My advice would be to forget about stacking flaming damage with even more flaming damage, and to try to find ways of stacking the Fire Dancer's flaming weapon with other damage types...frost or shocking, for example.
That's the way to get the most of it, but then you have a shocking weapon that's also sometimes flaming, while the other guy, who doesn't focus on fire, has a flaming weapon. He has a slightly weaker, but more fiery weapon than you!

All that to say, I think the Fire Dance ability is plenty powerful as-is.
It's +1d6 fire damage, sometimes (probably most of the time, to be fair). It's not that good.

I'd have no problem with it even if it were "anything you pick up is flaming, always".
