I have been playing D&D and Shadowrun weekly since over 10 years. While I do think that d20 is the best rules system for fantasy games I have seen, as soon as a game has modern firearms (or ultramodern/futuristic) I convert to Shadowrun 3.
All of which still boil down to some combination of fighter, wizard, cleric (shaman) and rogue. Hand me a +3 Ares Predator w/ a smartlink, and I'm set.
Pretty much. You've got variations on three character types: Magic Guy, Fighter Dude, and Skills Guy. As silly as I think Urban Arcana is, it's very similar to what early (i.e. late 2011-2030) Shadowrun would look like.
As soon as I picked up Spycraft, I started comparing my current SR2/3 character with the classes in there. "Okay, several levels of Soldier, one or two of Faceman..."
