Shapechange - what are the limits?

Haha! Well, even if you only assume creature forms from the MM and common objects (nothing like the stuff you mentioned, or the flea-turns-into-rock-in-your-brain-crap), it's already quite powerful!

Well even if you say no really wierd stuff like adamantite of the absurdly large variety, you could go with rock, realy big pieces of rock are all over the place and aren't very unique. But yes even if you take out the silly inanimate object abuses a lot of problems can crop up from just the sheer volume of things you can turn into. I becomes a DMs nightmare because it becomes really hard to account for what the player an do.(high levels are bad enough, spells like this make it worse)

But anyway, I agree with Andor. Might as well just let it go, especially since I think Shapechange just tells you like Polymorph, without any restrictions.

Yep, my line of thought was, that it does not mention anything like this (obviously), because the errata was not yet done, of course.

And I almost believe, that they just didn't think of Shapechange, when they did the Polymorph Other errata.

Or, as Oni said, they just thought, what the heck, it's a 9th level spell.

Maybe it would be sensible to extrapolate the Polymorph Other errata and make it...

Any creature (of any type, even Construct, Elemental, Outsider or Undead) with equal or fewer Hit Dice than your own or 25, whichever is lower. Not that it would make much of a difference, really.

Dunno how to properly restrict the object stuff, tho, except by using only common sense non-abusive stuff...
