Possibly a Idiot.
"Shardspace" was used as the name for a Eberron and Spelljammer crossover fan-project that was ongoing back when the Gleemax forum was still alive.

But it's far more likely the MMO term just bled through because it's also a pun about Dragonshards.

Doesn't the MMU term refer to multiple copies of the same plane? That doesn't seem to fit.

They were meant to be parallel universes that started out as copies of the same place. Which then retroactively developed their own independent pasts and futures because its inexplicable quantum-magi-physics that only had to sound cool enough to placate the turbo nerds who were super deep into the lore. Allowing them to make independent game servers, retcons, and future installments of the game series without having to stand up to scrutiny.

Which fits perfectly with the idea that most of the D&D campaign settings are different versions of the same prime material plain.
