Share the Love thread

Okay, for all of us newbies, what is this Share the Love thing?

It's a program run by Amazon.com - when you place an order you have the option of including Email addresses to "Share the Love" (STL for short)

Those receivers get a notice that you have offered to "STL," if you place an order for the same item within 1 week (following the special link they give you), you receive a 10% discount on the item.

The person giving the STL credit receives a credit on their account equal to the amount of the 10% credit you received. The credit can be used on certain future purchases. If 10 people buy something that you gave STL on, you still only receive credit from the first STL purchase of that same product/ This end of the STL program seems to have some kinks in it though .... as I hear enough stories of the giver not actually getting the STL credit. There are enough disclaimers of "at Amazon.com's discretion" etc...

But it is supposed to be basically credit for all involved. :)

If you don't place orders through Amazon.com then this is of course of no use to you. ;)

Would it be possible to start a share the love forum where people can post their offerings of love and other can submit their names for love. :)
Just a thought.

I was thinking a STL Forum would be a good idea as well... or some sort of club where folks join and take turns buying products and sharing the love on them. Of course it is beyond me how you would manage it so it wasn't always the same persons buying and sharing every time. Maybe make it mandatory to share the love on a gaming product every 4 months or something.

I would definately be interested in getting involved with some sort of organized share the love forum or club.

What's wrong with dumping all the Share the Loves into this thread? Eric has already merged one thread into it (mine...). So far, we're collecting names for the general-public STL list. Some people are just posting for specific items, but no matter what, they're getting dumped into the all-purpose list. :D

A STL forum would probably fail, because no one would browse it - and thus it wouldn't be useful. We could add STL to the Marketplace forum, but I personally think it's better off just in one thread.

Just ordered Unearthed Aracna and added everyone in this thread to the STL list.

Since it seems that we are now collecting email addresses for a generic STL list, please feel free to keep adding. Also, when you order, please remember to send a STL to others. Keep that lovin' going 'round.
