Sharing Spells and Potions/Scrolls/Wands

First Post
I need help. I have found some discussion of this issue on various threads, but there seems to be a certain amount of disagreement or at least confusion.

The question: Can you "share spells" with your animal companion or familiar when you are using scrolls, potions, or wands OR just merely when you personally cast the spell without such aid? For example, can you cast mage armor on yourself and your animal companion using a scroll/potion/wand?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would say yes for wands and scrolls and staffs, no for potions. Sharing spells: "At the master’s option, he may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) he casts on himself also affect his familiar. "

wands: "Wands use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a wand is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity."

scrolls: "A spell successfully activated from a scroll works exactly like a spell prepared and cast the normal way."

staffs: "Staffs use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a staff is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity."

Much Appreciated

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I tend to agree that scrolls, wands, and staves are ok while potions are not. Are there any other dissenters out there?

I would vote "yes", but I've gotten answers from WOTC custserv in the past saying "wands don't count as casting a spell, so you can't use one to counterspell", stuff like that. So there's your dissent (not actually from me).

Considering that you can't move more than 5' from your pet and keep the spell shared, there is not much need to limit the ability further.

I say only when you personally cast the spell, regardless of the language I2K cites.

I would say only spells cast directly by yourself.

I might consider scrolls as valid, since the act is most similar to casting a spell from daily slots, but I haven't so far and I would continue this way.

Definitely not wands or any other item.
