(Shhhhh... Have all of the "Gencon" people left...?)

When it comes to conventions, my gaming group counts as the Anti-Geeks -- we avoid conventions at all costs.

So, yeah, we are having the regular game this weekend, except for one guy who has been sent by his company to Arizona for training.

I'm running my slightly Harry Potter-esque campaign this Saturday, and playing in another game on Sunday.

In the Potter-esque game, the PC's (some of whom are near to graduating from a wizarding university, others who are honored guests, all 4th level) have just discovered the source of severe bad dreams that have been plaguing the students of the school for the past year. Someone has been sending small spider constructs into the school to do something to the students. The spiders travel on the Shadow Plane (which in my game serves the same purpose as the Ethereal), only shifting into the Material Plane to draw little bits of their essence out of them while they sleep - exact details unclear.

Due to the magical protections on the school's boundaries, the things have been smuggled into the school physically - they couldn't walk into the school while in Shadow, but can shift into Shadow once inside school grounds. The smuggling has been done by little creepy gnome-sized beings, several of whom burst into a magnesium flash when killed. They captured one - the Psion charmed him - and this session will see them try to discover what he is, how the spider constructs work, and what they're up to. I've got some foreshadowing of various things to toss in there, and some combats planned.

I'm thinking with all the mods gone, we need to start up some thread about how politics and religion relate in the 2004 presidential campaign.

Ok, maybe not. :)

Didn't go to GenCon this year. Our group will be *playing* this weekend. I put that in asterisks because we're not sure what we'll be doing. I sent them an email earlier that I wasn't interested in running my game anymore, which has kind of sent us into a tailspin. Some of us are interested in running a sort of round-robin play-as-you-go thing, and others have expressed interest in *not* doing that.

So, we'll see where we end up. Hopefully not fisticuffs.

P.S. Hey Mark! Do you have a new 3.5 bundle in the works perhaps, that includes all the Psionics info? Just wondering, because I am jonesin' for a searchable PDF copy of the XPH info, and your bundle is the best SRD in the world.

Thanks! (I agree ;) ) It's looking like the next update will be in early September. Sign up on my boards brotherman. :D

That's what I like to see from other old schoolers!

Making it tough to level em' up!

:D

I will be playing in my weekly homebrew DnD game tonight.

I will be running my 3/month DnD game on Friday.

For the game I am playing in, we are still trying to figure out who is who and why they are important in a town we have been contracted to portect for the year. 200+ people in a town spread across a valley. Orcs periodically raid. Some of the Orcs are tough (10th+). We have just arrived and are trying to coordinate our plans on how to safeguard these people.

For the game I am running, the PC's will be starting off exploring the abandoned manor they just found. They will figure out pretty quickly that it was abandoned over 1300 years ago. It's a little dusty inside, but otherwise in great shape. The PC's might find that a little interesting. After they explore, they might continue down the road to try to figure out how much of a threat the Gnoll warbands really pose. There is a Gnoll warlord that is apparently trying to carve out a kingdom for himself and the PC's are interested in stopping him.

I'm writing a wild and woolly, dragon-butt stomping, mook-filled, drug lord ruining, BLOWS-UP-REAL-GOOD-AT-THE-END supersized can of Whoop-Ass. Or in other words I'm writing a d20 Modern adventure with a little Magic FX and a lot of explosions fit for Hong Kong's equivalent of Hollywood.

:D

What are everyone else's gaming plans this weekend?

Do you have a regular game you will be running?

Tell us what the planned scenario is (if you DM) or what character you will be playing (if gaming as a player)...

Since I'm in South America, and they haven't got GenCon Uruguay off the ground yet :p , I'll be doing what I do every weekend: Saturday I'm running Amber, with my group of 7 players.. none of them have any familiarity with the setting so I'm actually running them through an adapted version of the novels. As of now they're in the Reign of Eric period, Random has just tried to kill Eric, Corwin is safely locked in a dungeon with his eyes burned out, Brand has been sending messages to the Pcs telling them that "someone" in the family has made an alliance with the Courts of Chaos, and one of the Pcs has just been stabbed over the primal pattern (hehe).

Sunday is my Midnight D&D game.. the players are on Asmodar(sp?), one of the elves just got castrated (long story that), and the party is itching to go to those mysterious ancient ruins that are taboo to the islanders.

15 blocks from GenCon

...that's where I live.... a mile and a half.

I'm not going... no money... this sucks.

However, I'm driving out to Mooresville for JeffCon, a weekly gathering of 6 gamers for D&D (Greyhawk) and d20 Modern (Indy Arcana).

Still... this sucks.
