Shield Other...

I know this has been talked about before but I cannot find the correct thread for the life of me.
/sorry

I have two paladins that cast shield other on each other. Now they are going to start using a buff that gives 5/-.

So how exactly does that work?

Axe hits paladin1 for 45 points so they each take 23-5=18? Or does the 45 get reduced to 40 and they each take 20?

Here's what I posted last time this discussion came up.

Basically:
1) Apply any DR the initial target has.
2) Split the remainder.
3) Caster of Shield Other does not get to apply any DR to his half, as the source of the damage is now Shield Other which deals untyped magical damage.

This gets argued a lot.

I say DR only helps once. Once the damage is being transfered, it is too late to resist it.
