Shifters and Black Puddings...

Got a response from the Sage reguarding Shifters in Black Pudding form:

Questions by me:

If a Shifter is hit while in Black Pudding form, should he be allowed to
control both halves? (Split is an Extraordinary ability that he is suppose
to be able to use)

Or should the split off sections revert to random pieces of the Shifters
equipment.

If the split off sections are puddings under his control, does the Shifter
have to reform somehow before changing back to his true form?

Response from WotC:

>The shifter retains control of all the pudding parts, provided they are all within 5 feet of at least one other part. Parts that are not within 5 feet of at least one other part die and revert to their original forms, which could be random pieces of equipment or, bloodstains, or other non vital body parts at the DM's option, it's far easier to just deduct the hit points (see below) and get on with the game.

The shifter can change forms normally while split. All parts within 5 feet of at least one other part are pulled in and rejoin the shifter's body. When a separated part is killed or dies, the shifter loses the hit points that part represents

P.S.
How in the heck do I change the color of my sig color?

An interesting way of handling it. I think I like it. Of course this still doesn't answer the eternal debate about Slaad eggs... :)

By within 5' of one other part, does he mean in a contiguous chain of parts no more than 5' from each other? Otherwise, you could split up and go your seperate ways, as long as the baby puddings used the buddy system. I would say that when groups of puddings are split apart, the larger one contains the Shifter, and the other parts die. If they are of equal size, the Shifter chooses.

How powerful is this pudding splitting ability? Whats the best way to abuse it? I'm thinking of epic level shifter's cut into 100 pieces, and each one is casting meteor swarm or something.

Seems to me he meant a contiguous chain. Just read this part 50 or 60 times and you'll get it, I'm sure. I think I'm finally starting to catch on to Skip's lingo. :)

If you're referring to the hard to read black text, go to the area where you type in your .sig. In there are some [T] and I think
tags along with [/T] and
. These must be deleted.
