If you can get past the silly spell names- Tunnels & Trolls is tough to beat as an introductory game. Super easy to learn.

Yeah, I think Dragon Age is probably your best bet.

Castles and Crusades would be good, but you would have to use Omote's or my house rules to get everything else you want.

Oh, by the way: the historical figure the novel character Baron von Bomberg is based on actually has been accused to spend an excessive amount of money on gambling and alcohol. Luckily his lawyer could convince the judge that the Baron actually earned more money from his inheritance by his business acumen than he squandered in pubs.
