Should Dungeon and Polyheadron be in the same magazine

However, I will say that Paizo seems to have a really bad printer. While not knowing the prices involved, it sounds as if they are being overcharged. The printer also seems to have issues with quality control.

No clue what type od contract Paizo is under with them, although I think they could get better service with Cadmus or Sheridan, especially Sheridan.

No idea when Paizo will send out another RFP for printing services, but I think they could do better.

Again, I would have to see the actual numbers, but it sounds off from their descriptions.
If you're wondering why the price of Dungeon is $1 more than the price of Dragon, it's because Poly's format now includes articles to support the licensed Star Wars RPG. I remembered when WotC printed Star Wars Gamer and it too was $1 more, because it is a licensed magazine.

If that were the case, wouldn't a broader selection of articles (some all-crunch, some all-fluff, some essays about RPing, some newsreporting, some setting-specific, etc.) be the best solution, rather than narrowing the focus to a couple specific things? For that matter, i'd love Dragon to try to be more of a general-interest RPG magazine with broader appeal--more akin to Rolling Stone, as you suggest. But that'd require (1) D&D players being willing to buy a magazine that had content for other RPGs and (2) non-D&D players being willing to buy a magazine that had conten for D&D. Both of those used to be true, and neither seems to be true any more. But i know i dropped Dragon when it dropped everything else.
I know that they did before, even when they dropped the ARES section. But Dragon readers prefer a D&D gaming magazine.

Poly was more useful as an RPGA publication. Heck, the RPGA was more useful when it was a subscriber organization!

The RPGA was actually worthwhile when it supported RPers, instead of just D20ers.

I'm Sticking With Dungeon/Polyhedron

I am an avid reader and devoted fan of Dungeon magazine. Sure, as a singular v.3.5 Ed. D&D DM and Player, I don't use material from the Polyhedron side. But, I don't mind it being there, not one bit. I am glad the publishers take the space and time to provide material for the "fringe" d20, non-D&D gamer. They need copy space, too. And, the Living Greyahwk Journal, one of my favorite elements of the magazine, is in the Polyhedron section. No problem. I figure, it's like dinner at Red Lobster restaurant. I like the Admiral's Special, except the scallions - so I push them to the edge of my plate. I don't villify the server or write acrimonious letters to Red Lobster Corp. I'm just glad they have a dish I didn't have to make, that has most of what I want.

In that same vein, I don't have time to devise and write adventures. So, I whole heartedly appreciate every adventure that comes along (especially those for the World of Greyhawk). I don't care if they're short or long, or if there are two or four. And the Shackled City - great stuff. Again, I don't have time do make that stuff up myself. Then there is Downer - my new favorite Dark Elf. LMAO, keep him coming.

Last, Dungeon looks fantastic. Sure, there are some utility issues with the glossy pages. But, I'm not going to write in my copy anyway. A visit to the trusty copy machine is my course.

I don't know about advertising, distribution or the issues of cash-flow regarding monthly vs. bi-monthly publication. I do know I have limited time to invent and prepare D&D games. Luckily, Dungeon does that for me, and I think they make it look good. Thanks, Dungeon.

The first is Dungeon #112, our 30th Anniversary of D&D issue in which the entire magazine is taken up by Maure Castle, a massive four-level 1st edition style dungeon written by Robert J. Kuntz and Gary Gygax (with adaptation to 3.5 and additional material by James Jacobs and yours truly). It's a huge experiment and a special possibly once-in-a-lifetime event, so I'm looking forward to seeing the response.

there are several message boards already discussing this one. ;)

try www.dragonsfoot.org for starters.

edit: btw, make sure my copy is sent early. i've been having/still am having issues with getting my copy the last 4 months....i don't know why.
