Should I get THIS boxed set...

Tell me about THIS version of D&D:

It's available at my local used book store for a modest price and I'm wondering if it's worth picking up. The website above gives scant information.

Are you interested in Basic Dungeons and Dragons, circa 1981 to 1985? Or are you interested in Original Dungeons and Dragons, circa 1974? This is closer to the former version, I believe, and not too bad, though if you ever have a chance to pick up a used copy of Aaron Allston's D&D Cyclopedia, then you will fare much better.

I am indeed interested in Rules Cyclopedia D&D and I'm wondering how helpful this boxed set is to that end.

I can't really tell you much more than Acaeum can. It appears to be an introductory set to RC-era D&D. Covers levels 1-5 I think.

but since your FLGS doesn't have real D&D. i guess the copy they do have is better than what's come out since then.
