Should i multiclass??

First Post
I am running a dwarwen fighter lvl2, and i resently got to level 3. i am thinking about multiclassing into either a barbarian or a cleric, since i know that you know a whole lot more than me about dnd i am asking you what you would have done.
Multiclass or continue as a straight fighter?

btw: how fast does a dwarwen barbarian in medium armor run?
20 or 25 feet.

Stay fighter until 4th level so you can specialize in a weapon.

Speed in medium armor for a dwarf: 15'
Extra movement for a barbarian: +10'
Equals: 25'

[ edit: This is wrong. It should be dwarf base speed 20' +10' for barbarian. In armor 20'. Sorry about that. ]

If you don`t want to lose your Save Progression you should at least wait for 3rd level...
(Though I do not know if you`ll miss this 1 point to your reflex & will save...)

Hmm. Barbarian in Ligt & Medium Armor gain +10 to base speed, so it would probably be 20 feet.

A dwarven barbarian in Medium armour moves 2/3 * 30 = 20 ft (same as a human fighter with base speed 30ft.)

What do you want out of this character? Power in melee? Take more and more fighter levels, possibly with one barbarian level for speed and rage. Taking all clerical levels after your two fighter levels leaves you (assuming sufficiently high Wisdom) with the bonus feats and the ability to cast spells only 1 level lower than the non-multiclassed party members. If you have War domain you get a free Weapon Focus (assuming you don't have it already) and some nice buffing spells.

Rogue levels can also enhance your combat abilities, especially if you have high enough Dex to use ligh armour and Tumble effectively (see Wulf's story hour for examples of how effective a Dwarven fighter/rogue can be....)

What are your Feats so far? What are your stats? What weapon do you use? What possible reason can you have for wearing Medium armour :) ?

With more information, we can guide you better.

okay

str 18
dex 13
con 18
int 12
wis 15
cha 8

so if i am taking cleric levels it´s not for turning :)

alignment : Caotic good

Feets so far:
prof, dwarf axe, focus axe and power attack

the reason i was wondering about medium armor was that me and my dm didn´t know if you applied the +10ft after or before you detirmine the speed due to armor, (hope you understand that, my english could be better :) ).

What do you want out of this character?
well, as most people i want to have fun with it. And i have, teasing the paladin can be really funny ;)
He is actually a happy and quite social dwarf, but he has never got his hand far from his axe, and is quick to draw it

A level or two of barbarian fits in to the character comcept quite well, a raging axewielding dwarf.

The idea of cleric came to my mind last session when the paladin tried to convert me to Heironeus.

i hope didn´t get to far away from what you wanted to hear:p

btw: other ideas are also welcome

Here are my thoughts on multiclassing for you.

Cleric: I would forget about taking any cleric levels. They will just slow you down. Tell the paladin "Thanks, but no thanks!"

Barbarian: One level could be useful. You get a Fort save boost, a d12 HD, and rage once per day. Fast movement is alright, but you want heavy armor a.s.a.p. BTW, in medium armor, you add +10 to your base speed. A dwarf's base speed is 20, so your base speed is 30 in medium armor or less. The medium armor, however, lowers your speed to 20. Don't get another level. The uncanny dodge will not help you that much with your current dex.

Rogue: Three levels of rogue could be quite useful for you. Skills, sneak attack, evasion, uncanny dodge, and good reflex saves will broaden your character nicely. The disadvantages of course are lower possible hit points, 1 less BAB, and loss of bonus feats.

Fighter: Staying with fighter is a viable choice, too. Bonus feats and weapon specialization (dwarven waraxe) at 4th level is not too shabby.

Here are a couple of ideas on how to proceed:

L3 - Fighter 3 Cleave
L4 - Fighter 4 Weapon Specialization (dwarven waraxe), Str 19
L5 - Fighter 4/Barbarian 1 Rage, Fast Movement
L6 - Fighter 5/Barbarian 1 Great Cleave
L7 - Fighter 6/Barbarian 1 Improved Initiative
L8 - Fighter 7/Barbarian 1 Str 20 (+5)
L9 - Fighter 8/Barbarian 1 Improved Crit (dwarven waraxe), Power Lunge

L3 - Ftr 3 Cleave
L4 - Ftr 4 Weapon Specialization (dwarven waraxe), Dex 14
L5 - Ftr 4/Rogue 1 Sneak Attack +1d6
L6 - Ftr 4/Rogue 2 Evasion, Arterial Strike (song & silence)
L7 - Ftr 4/Rogue 3 Uncanny Dodge, Sneak Attack +2d6
L8 - Ftr 5/Rogue 3 Str 19
L9 - Ftr 6/Rogue 3 Improved Crit (dwarven waraxe), Imp. Init.

From a powergaming ( :) ) standpoint I do not suggest to take rogue or barbarian levels thus late.
Both the Rogue and the Barbarian have more Skill Points than the Fighter, and you will not get the 4x at 1st level now, so you might really miss them. (4 Hit points are not much compared to 24 skill points)
The Advantage from taking some Cleric Levels are especially that you will be able to use cleric (Cure Light?) Wands. :)
And isn`t there a rule that you can assist others when they try to turn their enemies?

From a Roleplaying standpoint it might fit to go for the Cleric or the Barbarian. But remember that believing or trusting on a god does not require you to choose a Cleric (or Paladin) level. This would fit well if you really want to devote yourself to the god.
