Should I subscribe to DUNGEON?

I personally would not want to see Polyhedron go away. The issues of Dungeon I purchase are almost always because of Poly content. And I miss the mini games darn it!

The Auld Grump

Dungeon and Dragon, it seems of late cater to a younger audience than me. I can find nothing in either of those magazines that I can relate too much anymore. With all of their problems I rather liked it better when WoTC published them. Plus they don't have much anymore in the way of FR specific stuff so....

I'm only in it for the Shackled City campaign, at this point. I find the comics and Poly to be of no use for me, not even for casual reading. I let my subscription lapse, and after the SC path is completed I'll probably stop buying newstand issues. It's just my personal opinion, but somehow when I need an adventure I'm drawn more to the "old" Dungeons and convert them over to 3.5. Lots of classics in that pile; other than the SC mods, nothing from the more recent era really grabs me in that way.

Why do you specifically think it caters to a younger audience? I'm curious.

Personally, I consider Dungeon to be one of the best buys in gaming today. I like that it's monthly, I like the Polyhedron mini-games. Incursion saw direct use in my game, but all of them have contributed ideas and interesting mechanics to my games.

Further, Dungeon has, IMHO, been getting better and better with each issue, lately. The adventure path series is well done, the art has been consistently better to me, and I've just thought the quality of the adventures overall has been great.

Why do you even ask the question ? Where else do you get that many high quality D&D adventures MONTHLY ?

I QUEST you to subscribe immediately ! Roll a Will save NOW !

Can't put my finger on it, if I could part of it would be the whacked out crapassed race combos they come up with :). I'm old school what can I say? I certainly don't begrudge anyone for liking what's in there though so you shouldn't feel the need to defend your preference. Most of it is just not for moi.

I would wholeheartedly suggest a subscription except for one thing: the last 2 out of 3 issues are WAY late: #109 was 2 weeks late, and I haven't got #111 yet (~3 weeks after their "ship date"). Not anything to froth at the mouth over, but a little irksome nonetheless. To be fair, I should say I renewed a week ago... do as I say not as I do!

In your position, I'd buy the next 3 issues from the local shop. If I liked 2 of them, and nobody from the U.S. is on the boards complaining about late issues THAT month, I'd subscribe.

That's Dragon though, not Dungeon. I agree that Dragon is skewed towards a younger age group; what with every issue having something like "12 Insane New Items for Tiamat" or "6 Extreme Prestige Classes that Haven't Been Playtested!" Dungeon is relatively staid; an adventure or two, a map and maybe a NPC.

Personally I was one of the people that really liked the Poly mini games, and could kind of accept it when they got it wrong, since that's the risk of variety. Now I feel like a cash cow for a magazine that's getting thinner and thinner, at a relatively high price, and the poly section is pretty much dead. I rarely run the prebuilt adventures and can mine better ideas elsewhere. I'm seriously thinking about stopping buying it, let alone subscribing.
