Should monster books from now on have level break downs?

I think that having Level breakdowns would take up to much space for each creature, thus raising the printing costs and ultimatly the purchase price. Besides, publishers (other than WOTC) wouldn't be able to do this until SS was placed in the SRD. So the whole matter is somewhat irrelevant Or am I mistaken?
However having an entry giving the monster's suggested ECL would be very nice.

No. Perhaps for a few races, but putting out a lot of monster break-downs would be a waste of space, IMO, as they would not get used in proportion to those that buy a monster book.
 

I agree with Psion. It would be useful for some of the more PC-friendly races that have ECLs, but giving it to straight monsters would take up too much space.

Not only that, but I don't like the idea of having watered down creatures. Why should ever creature be an option at every possible CR? It just makes each monster less unique. If characters go up against a remorhaz they should be afraid, they shouldn't be wondering if it's only a 2 HD remorhaz with no special abilities.

The other thing I think all future monsters should have: level adjustment

But then, I'm a big glutton for playing monstrous characters...I can't see myself ever playing a PHB race again. :)
 


I think it's brilliant. I would love to see every monster always done like this.

Look at the advantage: you can take ANY adventure and instantly scale the monsters in it to whatever level is appropriate for your PCs.

That's exactly what I dislike. Characters shouldn't be able to defeat dangerous monsters of legend until they have the skill needed to do so.

All of a sudden the game is exactly the same at every level. Kill some monsters. Get some loot. Level up. Kill the exact same monsters. It reminds me of those dumb video games where, when you get to higher levels all of a sudden the skeletons are red instead of white, but otherwise it's the same game. Isn't there supposed to be some kind of gauge of progress in the game? Blech!!!

[sarcasm]Yes, that make perfect sense because the Storm Giant's fortress would be guarded by Medium-size Storm Giants barely out of their nappies if a 2nd level party decided to attack it. I suppose it could be their sand pit.[/sarcasm]
