Should Ronin Arts Submit to Monte Cook's "Year's Best?"

But I'd suggest you take the next few months and compile your own list of the best of d20 so people can see how yours differs from Montes.

Perhaps not a bad idea... except for one thing...
Why should anyone care what my opinion of the best D20 product is?
It's just one person's opinion.

And my criteria is simple...
The fun factor and usability of the product in my gaming group's sessions.
I very VERY rarely care about the numbers as much as the flavor.
All it would end up being is "C. Baize's group's favorite D20 Material we have purchased, or received as swag."
*yawn*
Plus the list would be totally biased... Modern Backdrops is easily my favorite because my wife wrote it. :)

It might make for a good thread though. Asking what everyone's opinion is regarding what is the Best of D20. For the year, or from the beginning.
And honestly, I tend to look more at comments/reviews by gamers using the products in their games (or specifically NOT using it in their games) far more seriously than by "Industry Professionals" who could well be giving props to their buddies in the industry (I'm also likely to listen to freelancers who didn't work on the product, but know their way around a product). I don't want a mathematical breakdown of why Product [A] is mechanically better for your campaign than Product . I want to know how well it works in your game. What did it bring to the table?

Hmmm....

I seem to be rambling way off topic...

Anyway... Your idea would be good for a thread, but I don't expect anyone to hold my opinions on a product to be definitive of best/worst in D20.

Plus, if this is really Monte's opinion of the "Year's Best", wouldn't it make more sense for him to be contacting those publishers who have released the material he already thinks is the Best? 'Cause he isn't. He's not presenting his opinion on what's been released---he's doing an open call for submissions, and picking "the Best" from those.

So, really, it's "The Year's Best D20 From Publishers Who Submitted Material For Monte To Reprint For Free."

But hey, whatever floats yer boat.

I wish I was the publisher of my book instead of just the author so I could submit it myself. With everything that Mongoose puts out during the year, I doubt my lowly lil' PDF will make the cut if they choose to submit anything. :(

I wouldn't count on Mongoose even entering, personally.

They don't usually do the Ennies, so I don't imagine they'd be too hip on this, either.

In the two years I've judged they have enter both times. Slaine won in 2003 and in 2004 I think we nominated two of their books, though neither won.

People will care if you present your opinion in a well stated and supported way. People usually don't listen to people who just say "This is cool" but they do if the person also explains why. People listen to the opinions of reviewers, posters, and friends all the time.
