from SRD:
(D) Dismissible
You must ... speak words of dismissal ... If the spell has no verbal component, you can dismiss the effect with a gesture.
Silence
... Components: V, S
the situation:
The party cleric or bard casts Silence; targeting an enemy caster. The enemy either fails the saving throw or decides not to resist.
The enemy then charges and melees the cleric/bard who is now in the middle of their own silence effect which (since Silence has a V component) is not dismissable.
Has anyone encountered this? If this is a common tactic, I do apologize.
If so, is there a better way to use silence?
I recall that 1st/2nd ed that Silence 15'rad would be cast on a copper piece and then tossed into battle. I know that 3.x Silence can be cast on a point in space; but though this shapes the battlefield enemy casters can still step out of it.
