Yes....I too have noticed things're getting a little chilly around here...... I guess that the "old hands" are somewhat responsible for this but......

What was your entrance like? Did you just walk into the room? Did you make some sort of "splash" with your entrance?

We ALL need to absorb some of the blame here, including those making new characters. I mean......yes, we could all make everyone a little more welcome, but at the same time, THEY should be putting in a little effort on that score too. If you just walk into a room and start dropping hints that you'd like someone to come over and talk to you, most people are probably going to ingnore you and go on with what they happen to be up to at the time....... Why? Because they are too interested in what they are doing.

This is just from my own personal experiences on the Message Boards, of course. I don't participate in chat, as I'm a lousy typist, so I haven't got a clue what goes on there.

So my suggestion is to make a new character, walk into the room, walk over to a bunch of people who look interesting and nice and start talking to them, rather that waiting for them to come to you.

That's a very good suggestion Kami. I've tried things like walking in and talking to the golem, or "bumping" someone and saying I was sorry. Usually that's met with nothing heh... I mean they don't seem to notice or say anything. Other times I've had characters come in and just talk... weather, the place, people.. whatever comes to mind.

I've seen people walk up to a group of others and start talking to them about whatever it is they happen to be talking about and after 4 attempts give up because those they were talking to outright ignored them.

I don't know the solution but I do know that things are not going so well on site. People seem to be more and more down and less and less likely to chat with you (even if you approach them). My desire is for everyone to feel welcome and have fun here again. Maybe it's not possible, but maybe it is. I know that absolutely nothing will be accomplished if we don't try.

Generally I think it's best to meet new people like you would in real life.

I bumping into people all the time, but I rarely start conversations with them. Likewise if I'm engrossed in a conversation with my friends and someone comes over and tries to talk to me it's quite possible they won't be welcome (depending on the venue and subject matter).

Generally I find there's almost always someone in the tavern who's attention seeking or obviously hanging out and that is the person who it's best to go over and talk to. Once you're in with one person generally you'll get introduced to their friends and so on.

Yes it's tricky and can be nerve wracking, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. :)

Well......my approach DOES seem to work on the boards. As I said, I don't get into chat, so I have no idea what goes on there. BUT....that said, I can think of a couple tips.... Try making a dramatic entrance......

Walk up to the biggest looking Half Ogre in the joint and tell him he's in your seat and if he doesn't move, he'll regret it. Or something. Make your character have some sort of trait that makes people wanna talk to him....uhh....her. Maybe a 15ft tall pillar of fire follows you around or something.

*grins*

That 15 ft pillar of fire, may warrant a glance. hehehe.

Interaction is key. If you're standing in a favoured pub, someone walking in may warrant a glance. Someone walking in wearing some of the wackiest outfit may warrant a smile. To the odd person like me, draw my curiousity.

Jardel's comment makes sense. Ja I'd tend to go with his idea of attempting to meet people as you would IRL. It works. : P
