Simple question...

Say I have a ranger with the archery combat style and there is a prestige class that has Rapid Shot as a requirement. Can I take the prestige class without actually taking Rapid Shot since I am treated as having it with the combat style?

Thanks

The difference between Rapid Shot as a Ranger Combat Ability and an actual feat is that Rapid Shot is conditional as a combat ability - Rangers can only use it if wearing light or no armor.

I don't see any reason not to allow it to act as a pre-requisite for another feat or prestige class, although I MIGHT be inclined to make the condition carry over to the special abilities for the new feat or prestige class.

There is mention somewhere (I can't source it mind, I have the feeling it is a FAQ/Rules of the Game/Enworld "Consensus"*) about no longer being able to meet the PrC pre-reqs and losing the PrC abilities. This is how I would run it, the PC needing to be capable of using Rapid Shot to be able to use the PrC abilities. Mind you, things lilke BAB, saves etc would still be available (similar to a non-paly or monk).

*Enworld consensus ~= it kinda follows the rules, does not nerf either DM or player, and is more fun to the game.

Complete Warrior states that if you lose the pre-reqs for a class, you lose all class abilities, but retain the HD, BAB, and saves of the PrC. This rule works nicely as long as there are no Dragon Disciples in your world, in which case it throws the universe into an infinite loop and crashes the server of the material plane.

I should have added this info to my post above. But the title said simple question, so I gave a simple answer. :D
