Simpsons Comic Book Guy = Modern Day Gamer?

We are a very mixed bag of nuts. ;)

"Comic book guy" could be the stereotype for any number of people, just put him somewhere else...like say a football tail gate or a Nastycar track. Just because he is in a comic book shop he is a stereotype gamer, NOT a stereotype American!

The owner or the FLGS in Boise (Dark Horse Games and Comics...if you're ever in Boise, look it up) that I've been shelling money out to since I was a Sophmore in high school (believe me, a very long time) doesn't fit the stereotype of Comic Book Guy. He's very interesting to talk about, and knowledgable about many different subjects. He's not arrogant (at least, not extremely so). He's not overweight (he owns a horse ranch and pretty much has to stay fit). He used to race motorcycles. How cool is that?

I have known gamers who fit the stereotype, though. If not in physical appearance, than in attitude. I'd say I more fit the physical appearance part than the attitude, though.

Comic Book Store Guy isn't necessarily a gamer stereotype, like someone pointed. He's the epitome of nerdish fanboyism, yes, but not necessarily a gamer.

BTW, did you realize that CBS Guy has had sex with Seymour's Mother AND Girlfriend?

I've met a few people that have the look, a few people that have the attitude, but very few people that really have both. Certainly nobody that I associate with regularly is like that.

Only at conventions. I've met enough to prove that some people are living the stereotype, but I've never gamed with one in person. Their sex experience, I don't know, and I don't care to, but based on social awkwardness of some individuals I've met around the opposite sex, even married women, It's a possibility.

Now, pear-shaped bodies, on the other hand, are not uncommon in gaming circles (particularly in the U.S), and I should know. :) However, I've never known anyone personally who fit the stereotype (arrogant, virgin, master of esoterica, owned tons of gaming material).

Beats me. I've never met anyone like that in my life. But then again, I never go to cons, and when I buy something in the LGS I go straight in and straight out.

well Ive certaily met enough of them,
and I am on the verge of peardom myself
but oddly Bingo, the guy who fit the stereotype the best had one major difference,he was black.

I am intrested to know how the non- U.S. gaming community fits this stereotype - all the European gamers I have met were tall and geeky

Some of us are short, but judging by my gamer group & my experience at Gencons, most UK & Euro gamers definitely tend to slimness more than corpulence. The typical European gamer geek is slimly built, may wear glasses, and dresses all in black. Seems to go for both genders.

Well, in general, isn't it true that...

?

By that I mean that aren't Europeans usually slimmer than Americans?

By that I mean that isn't it in the US that there is a greater obesity problem?
