I think Cons are the place I have encountered the stereotype most often. As far as my personal gaming groups over the years I can't say anyone really fits the stereotype. Now days we are all a bit older and professonals many of whom are married and/or have kids. Now that's not to say I have not become a little pear shaped but I blame years in the software industry more than gaming for that

You have a point there, though. Maybe the reason is that it's easier to describe his physical appearance than it is to describe his personality?

Also, you see hundreds of people each day. You don't get to analyze as many people's personality. It's simpler to identify a fat person than it is to realize that they have an elitist geeky snubbyness personality

I have known many many people of various types of Geekyness that have CBG's personality. I have known a few ACTUAL Comic Book Guys that look exactly like CBG. But, no one in my group looks like that or generally behaves like that, nor do most of the gamers I know. I do suppose we (gamers that is) tend toward being a little sedintary, and a little obsessive (in some cases a lot) over things that not only don't matter to most people but don't ultimately matter at all.

I begin to fear that CBG isn't a sterotypical gamer...he is a stereotypical American. Or at least,America at its worst.

And yes, I am from the southern US, and no I do not look or talk like Cletus. And I have never knowingly eaten Road Kill. Knowingly. At the time that is...errr... never mind.

Well, for my own likeness to CBG, it's non-existent.
I'm 6'6", slightly less than 300 lbs with a body-fat % of around 8 and I play football (offensive lineman, i.e. we're not talking about soccer). I DO wear glasses though, but I think that's the "geekiest" part of my looks (comes from reading all those books). On the inside, though, I'm a lot geekier. I love rpgs, computers, books in general and so on.

I have met European (Danish) versions of CBG, though. I think they exist in all "western" cultures (i.e. where food and information is easy accessible).
My current gaming group have 3 small, but lean players (one runs marathons, one is an avid martial artist). One taller (6'1), but still lean (bikes to work and works with kids all day - so he's very active) and one who's also fairly tall (6'2), but with the highest body-fat % (having suffered a slipped disc didn't help). Unfortunately, for him, he's also slightly balding (he's 27). And then there's me.
From what I've seen at Cons, though, we're not all that stereotypical gamers.
Most are skinny with bad skin (too much Coca Cola and snacks???) or like CBG. At the FLGS it's usually the CBG guys that fit the personality profile too.

When someone mentioned that "his" name was Dennis I almost choked on my cereal. But since I think the poster is from the US I don't think we're talking about the same person. The personality would also be slick/backstabbing instead.

I don't fit the physical stereotype.

I stay active. When I can't run, I walk. I do martial arts. I go skinnydipping (no need for an icky-beach tuxedo ). I'm actually actively looking for a job. I weigh around 170 lbs, and I'm trying to reduce that. When I do get a job, I'm going to do something about my Sleep Apnea if I do have it (I don't want a CPAC). Being a slim, employed, active gamer will help me to come up with interesting adventures for my gaming group.
