Actually, that wouldn't be a bad way to introduce ppl to DND - give them a set of prewritten characters to play through a one to three session arc, then give them a different set of characters (like, let someone be a fighter, then a mage, etc) and continue the story but "five years later" or whatever, build a continutity around those two events, and show the players how to make up thier own perminent PCs , and have those PCs enter another five years later.

Doing it like this would be perfect- new players could learn how to play BEFORE they make important character decisions, and when their "real" characters start, the players are already hooked into the campaign - they have both a sense of the world as well as ties to its backstory (as they, well, created said backstory, at least in part).
That's how I introduced my group to Arcana Unearthed, but sadly it didn't take, so events from the one-shot never had a chance to rear their ugly head again.

Berador, your avatar and special name thing rock my world.

Yes, I did spot Tarentino, but thats only because I had just watched Pulp Fiction (so i knew his face) and also, because I'm quick like a fox...

Did anyone actually spot Tarantino in the movie (without checking the trivia database first or otherwise knowing where to look for him ;))?

No, I was too shocked seeing Frodo transmuted into a psycho catholic cannibal ninja.

Spoilers above.

The first time I saw that scene, I told my wife and friends, "HOLY :):):):)! HE ATE CHARLIE BROWN, TOO!"

The sweater tickled me purple.

It's a Prion-Disease-World, Charlie Brown!

Incidentally, interesting thing about kuru, it can have an incubation period of as long as 30 years.

30 years! Yikes!

Not only was Sin City a fantastic way to approach a Modern game.. it'd rock to see Sin City (Basin City, propertly) done as a D20 Modern campaign setting (with heavy Frank Miller involvement, 'natch).

That movie just rocked on frickin' toast. It exceeded my best-case expectations by a mile. That Marv looked just like a Frank Miller drawing.. I was floored.

Another nice thing about doing some of the other Sin City stories is that fun characters that died in the previous moive - like Marv - get to make an appearance again if they pick the right ones.
