Bugaboo should stick to his trolls in the General Forum, not here, as he is ruining our thread by distracting us from the debate over how best to develop this project.

Can't a mod (bad kitty, Piratecat!)admonish him to butt out if he has nothing valid to contribute other than his usual pointless sarcasm and flamebait?

ex-Q-zzzz me, oh mighty game designer, but what you call "pointless sarcasm" does, indeed, have a point: trying to help you see how misguided this elaborate ONE-LEVEL "PRESTIGE" CLASS project really is. Is your idea (or ego?) so fragile that it can't stand a teensy bit of scrutiny and nay-saying?

And if you'd take those angry self-righteous blinders off for a nanosecond, you *might* notice that my suggestion of CDPs was, indeed, a "valid" contribution to this thread.

Don't try to push me out of a thread again. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Every time you respond you're just giving him more points.
just look here if you aren't clued in.

Don't worry, I'm not offended in the slightest :p .
Cool. My focus-on-the-10%-I-don't-like mindset sometimes comes off the wrong way.

In fact, I by now come to agree. The original ability indeed showed a certain lack of ... subtelity.
Actually, I have to admit I got kinda psyched about it and I worked for a bit on a Dark Advisor class. But it was more PrC than flavor.

Not to mention the much cooler name! "Aprehend the invisible thread" ... somehow reminds me of the L5R courtier ability names, if you know those.
Thanks! I'm not a huge L5R fan (too similar to the Storyteller mechanic for me) but it had great imagery.

I -do- think that any arcane or divine spellcaster specific flavor classes should probably take a hit in spell casting power. Though I know that WotC really mucked things up with classes like the Arcane Trickster any class that gives full spellcasting progression will basically be better than a level of the base class. Which isn't the goal.
(unless you're going epic but that's a pretty small segment of gamers right now)

Anyone have ideas for a hedge mage? or a battle wizard? I've got a few.

I've addressed the issue with a couple of posters, and I would like this thread to go back to being civil. Please no more personal attacks, and let's go back to topic. Ok with everyone?

A hedge mage is the usual stereotype associated with the wizard who only has a few powers and makes trinkets in the local village, very like the concept of the adept.

He's basically a backwater mage.

It was also a kit from the book of Humanoids in 2e with the same concept, although the term predated that book.

Ah, thanks.
