Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

[sblock="if you speak celestial"]Return to your master and inform her that I have been captured and people will likely come looking for her. You cannot help me here anymore.[/sblock]

The elf bows slightly and states: "I am Larion Prevarieth and I represent the interests of the Shining Lands of Shahalesti. The gnome is on the fourth floor of this tower, unconscious and bound but otherwise uninjured. I owe you no more information ... Ragesian infant."

Arnir shouts out to his party as he sprints up the stairs "Quickly! Watch the Elf, but search that room! There are others with him! Likely Elven!"

He reaches the top of the stairs just as the Elf begins his introduction

Hrmir takes out his sling and loads a stone. He then looks at the elf.

"Nice trick, I guess you were expecting any Dwarf looking for a gnome? Regardless, who's Ragesian here? I sure as hell am not. Who told you to meet us here? Who told you about the gnome? What did you expect to find here?"

Larion regards Arnir for a moment before speaking: "E irilw il laylatyenyeel ela eo aey anmileanemla ane anira eo Shahalesti nyeycw latyailn anira cillvyilva eo nyacalaaneilcla. Larion then points his finger at Alric and speaks to Arnir again: "E sylaan illan, amira we aey ilcevl aeymlaaco ameanir anirela Milvalaeill?"

Finally, he finishes his speech with strong emphasis: "Wya ane aeym efeleeyla ilccaveillnya ameanir ill alasa eo sa nyeylanma, E amecc lean nyeetyamilana ameanir aeym fillw ylcalala aey nyill illalayma sa anirilan aeym elanalaneella laamela anira lilaneel aey irilela efeleeylaca anymlaw aeym filnynla el."

[sblock="if you speak elven"]I had a suspicion one of you traitors to the Crown of Shahalesti could speak the language of celestials. I'll speak in our ethnic tongue for the benefit of your elder friend. Worry not, for my ally has fled and you will receive no further aggression on my part.

However, please tell these humans and the rock-eating dwarf that I will henceforth only converse with you and your fellow elf.

I must ask, why do you align yourself with this Ragesian?

Due to your obvious allegiance with an enemy of my country, I will not cooperate with your band unless you can assure me that your intentions serve the nation you have obviously turned your backs on. [/sblock]

Larion regards Arnir for a moment before speaking: "E irilw il laylatyenyeel ela eo aey anmileanemla ane anira eo Shahalesti nyeycw latyailn anira cillvyilva eo nyacalaaneilcla. Arnir's cheeks flush bright red and he clenches his jaw as the Elf addresses him. He tightly clutches the grip on his bow as he takes a tentative step forward to strike the impertinent captive, but finds his composure. Looking back towards the group he waives his hand at Hrmir "Don't bother, unless you want an answer in Elven."

Turning back to the captive he resumes in Elven "Eo aey elilcya anira lailoaana eo aeym tyamlael, aey amecc laelam anilcn ane sa anirilan amila ilvilel, ylwamlaaneew? [sblock="if you speak elven"] If you value the safety of your person, you will never talk to me that way again, understood? I would be more than happy to tell the Human you are being uncooperative and have him liberate some of your fingers from your hand. I hope you will appreciate my sincerity.

I can speak for no one but myself in this group for I scarcely know them. I have allied myself with them as a means of escaping a city under siege by an aggressor that would see me dead. That gnome is my key to escape, and this group is the means to obtaining that key. I'll not have you stand in my way and I'll say no more until I know your purpose here. [/sblock]

Except for some brief interactions with a few Elvish wayfarers in Gate Pass, Bannock's conception of Elves as a race has, until this point in his life, been formed mostly by half-heard rumours, drunken hearsay, military propaganda about Shahalesti, and the prejudice of his father. This is the first time he's ever been in the company of so many Elves for so long, and the experience is quickly affirming at least one point about this race in his mind: they're all very annoying.

"Oy! Don't you know it's rude to use a tongue that not all present can speak?"

Bannock swivels his head back and forth between the two elves in front of him and Kirio, saying,

"Does anyone care to translate?"

Frustrated, he advances towards the door at the top of the stairs, roughly moving the rude newcomer out of the way, and leans into the next room to have a look inside.

Kirio smiles sadly and sighs... "This my friends is an agent of my homeland, Shahalesti, and he believes us to be working for the Ragesians, mostly because of our friend Alric here, and so will only talk to Arnir and me. I will attempt to convince him of the error of his... quick judgement, yes?"

He smilse genuinly at the younger elf "Celaanal omealw, illw E laila anirilan ameanireyan Emela, illa ean ela ilcamilala veew ane sa oacceamla amiral laymmeylwaw fa lae silla eo anira laireman ceelaw. Listen friend, and I say that without Irony, as it is always good to me fellows when surrounded by so many of the short lived. I love our homeland and miss it dearly, so do not call me a traitor when you have no cause to. It is not in our interest to remain in a city soon to be overrun of Ragesian Inquisitors, and we need your assistance in finding the Gnome to leave the city. The information he carries will harm the Ragesians and was stolen from them at great cost, and so our purpose is aligned with yours. I have fought them before, and am doing so again in my way, and so are these humans and dwarf. If truly you fight them, then you must help us..., yes?[/sblock]

OOC: OK, so how do you hide text? Just made it black font bellow the elven if you read it. Attempting Diplomacy Check to convice him we are not aligned with the Ragesians and that he should work with us.... and THAT is what I call a roll, yes yes yes yes yes!!!

Infuriated and embarrassed Alric strides forward at the completion of Larion's impertinence. His face twisted with black anger and saying not a word, he raises a mailed back hand towards Larion and pauses before bringing it down upon his ageless face.

Instead he resists the urge to strike the arrogant elf and strides past him giving him a look that clearly states: I would gladly kill you if not for my word.. And joins Bannock in the next room.

Alric and Bannock, the second floor looks much like the first save for four strong wooden doors: one at each cardinal direction. The stone ramp continues again on the other side of the room leading, presumably, up to the third floor. Torrent moves into the room to join you saying: "Let the elves speak. They'll probably get more out of him with us not around. Lets head upstairs and find Rivereye."

The door immediately to your side (West), which was opened by Larion, leads out to a stone balcony. Peering out, you are treated to an awesome and stunning view of the battle at the city’s western gate, about a mile and a half away. Fire lights up the western sky, the result of wyvern-bombing and of trebuchets hurling flaming balls of pitch into the city. Suddenly, a squadron of Gate Pass griffon riders swoop past over the city rooftops, heading to join the battle, their battle horns blaring.

Alric's attempted strike is rewarded without a flinch and a stony elven glare that drips with contempt. After the human passes into the next room, Larion speaks to Arnir and Kirio: "Aey amecc leanenya anirilan ira irilla lean waleaw anira ilnynyylailaneel. Aey amilcn ameanir il Milvalaeill."

Smiling, he continues: "Feam ameacwam, E saill lean ane ameylw aeym acelal tymewa, fyan aey sylaan ylwamlaanillw, anirilan omes sa tyelaeaneel, aey ilmmeela ane silna nyelanilnyan ameanir ill ilvalan anirilan ama irilela faal anmilnynelv oem laesa anesa. [sblock="if you speak elven"]You will notice that he has not denied the accusation. You walk with a Ragesian.

Bow wielder, I mean not to wound your elven pride, but you must understand, that from my position, you arrive to make contact with an agent that we have been tracking for some time. That agent possessed Ragesian military intelligence that my nation desires, for it intends to war with that Orc-spawned state. You then arrive in the presence of a Ragesian. I then view two elves: one in possession of a bow that appears much older than its owner, yet it bears traditional elven carving. The other, who has already confirmed his nationality, bears a flute of such design that only the artists of the court of Shahalesti could have produced it. In my eyes, you both appear to have left your country and taken up arms with the enemy."

Flute bearer, you present me with a compelling argument. However, I refuse to compromise my mission. The intelligence that the gnome held is now in our possession. Its location is unknown to me at this time. If you truly oppose Ragesia, and I have my doubts, then I will take you to see my master Shealis. She will determine the fate of the intelligence and you may make your case with her. I warn you though, she is an evoker of some power and your ... cantrips, will be of little help to you should you anger her. Revive the gnome and he will confirm these facts.[/sblock]

Hrimr tires of the endless Elven babble and follows the rest of the party to the next floor. He is stunned by the sight of the Gate battle and mouths a silent prayer for those whose lives will be lost there. He then takes a look around the rest of the floor.
