Size of character parties

Greetings all,

How many characters are there in a typical adventuring group in your campaign?

my current group has 4-5 players on average.

most groups I've been in over the yrs have been from 3-6 players.

edit: just noticed you asked about characters rather than players. My current group's SC party has 4 PCs and 2 cohorts... with the 5th player's PC about to join.

WotC assumes a typical party size of four; I think the actual size is a tad larger.

My group currently has seven people in it (six players), but one just had to drop out due to school issues and one hardly shows up for the same reason, so it's more like four-and-a-bit people. I think that's a good size.

PC's? 3 or 4. Maximum ever was 5.

Character's all in? Minimum of twenty.

Yup, henchman-heavy gaming.

There's lots of henchman fans in this thread, it seems. I've never been fond of them or other accompanying allies myself, but the variety is interesting.

Was this a typo or do some people in your group share PC's?

My group has 5 players and 5 PC's (although one of the PC's has a weird, sort-of split personality thing going on). I'd like to have 6 players but I'm worried that it might be 1 too many. Plus my table is a 6 person table so 6 players and 1 DM would make things a little cramped.

If the trends of this thread are true, he probably is including henchmen, DMPCs, hirelings and the like.
