Size of gaming group?

My group consists of 7, a DM and 6 players, but we often have 1 or 2 people absent. That is a pain. But a bigger pain is when we get into combats (which in 3E is often!), we tend to have too much table talk and said combats last way too long. I would say overall though that i like our group size, and most of us can deal with the table talk issue responsibly.

For every time someone says, "Hey what did the DM just say?" and one minute later there is nearly a TPK, there is another time when someone at the table just says or does something so funny that everybody laughs and about falls off their seats.....And that is what its all about I think. Most of us have been gaming together since high school (about 16 years ago) and a couple even longer than that, so our group is pretty close. I would gladly trade being an Ironfisted DM for being a friend at the table who just happens to be sitting behind the screen, trying to get everyone to have fun...and i hope they all feel the same

I'm amazed at my group, really. It started with three: Me DMing, and my friends Nathan and Ed (Fayredeth) Then we expanded for a tiny bit, including a girl, Susan. She was always very busy, so we eventually dropped her. Ed started to run a few games as DM after about a year or so, too. Then just this past year and a half... wow, it's been crazy! Last January, we added Darren, or Sticks as we like to call him. Then Susan started playing again, and over the summer I started a new campaign with all of them and a new guy. We won't go into the details of the new guy. He ruined the game for most of us and then school started up again and we never got to play. We played occaisionally, and then good news came. Susan found another girl to play--Alyson. She's our newest player and probably by far the most enthusiastic. A former prep, we've totally corrupted her with our nerdly ways... :D

So now we have a group of 6, 5 players and one DM. I'm usually the guy DMing nowadays, and we dont' like to play unless there's at least 4 players--otherwise it's jsut... a pain in the arse to run the game.

Our group has 6 players. Two of them DM and after a few sessions they alternate. One DM's our Oriental Adventures game and the other a Wheel of Time game. We play every fortnight. We all suffer from distraction as well and always have lots of other things to talk and laugh about. I believe our problem is that having a fortnight in between games we get a lot to talk about building up! Most of us don't talk to each other except for game night! Six is a good number because two people can be away and we can still play.

Our next game is tonight - four hours time at 8pm :D
Usually on the afternoon of the game (a friday) I hit enworld for a few hours and get myself all worked up and excited and then we don't end up really starting until 11pm and only get about an hour and a half in before we have to go home! It's so depressing, let's see if I can do a lot of roleplaying tonight and try and steer my fellow players on the path of playing!
