My group consists of 7, a DM and 6 players, but we often have 1 or 2 people absent. That is a pain. But a bigger pain is when we get into combats (which in 3E is often!), we tend to have too much table talk and said combats last way too long. I would say overall though that i like our group size, and most of us can deal with the table talk issue responsibly.
For every time someone says, "Hey what did the DM just say?" and one minute later there is nearly a TPK, there is another time when someone at the table just says or does something so funny that everybody laughs and about falls off their seats.....And that is what its all about I think. Most of us have been gaming together since high school (about 16 years ago) and a couple even longer than that, so our group is pretty close. I would gladly trade being an Ironfisted DM for being a friend at the table who just happens to be sitting behind the screen, trying to get everyone to have fun...and i hope they all feel the same
