One of the things that I'd forgotten about back in the 2E Combat and Tactics was that Large (bipedal) creatures only took up a 5' square. Of course, that also meant that each larger size category was a bit smaller grid-wise as well.*
I'd like to see this come back with Next, even if it is less focused on gridded combat.
One of the reasons that Large-sized PC creatures were so opposed was the amount of space they took up on a the gridded combat field. If that aspect goes away, then the idea of half-giants, ogre PCs or some other "big-boned" PC race is less of a problem - as are some monsters.
* Quadruped/long monsters were still pretty much what we're used to now, and I'd like to see them stay that way - they can just be presented as "extended size".
