Skeletal Request

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
A couple of questions. Would it be possible for someone do a writeup of a kind of skeleton I'm looking for. It is a type of regenerating skeleton, that can use its individual finger bones as missile weapons. After each three bones have been depleted, they regenerate at a rate of one bone per round. I plan on using this creature in a couple of months, and was going to use it as a sentient undead.

This was one of the "special" monsters in the back of the DM's book in the Red box set.
I don't know if anybody has ever created a d20 version though.

Ahhh, fond memories of tormenting my cousins with these things.

Depends on how much damage they do. I'd say something as small as finger bones would do 1d4 each -- about the damage of a hand crossbow.

Finger Bones: As an attack action, a skeleton sharpshooter can launch its fingerbones at an opponent. This is a ranged touch attack that deals 1d4 points of damage with a range increment of 30 feet. A skeleton sharpshooter has 30 bones it can fire in this manner (3 bones per finger). Once all bones have been fired, the bones regenerate at a rate of 1 per round.

This attack isn't really any more dangerous than giving skeletons daggers they can throw, so I don't think it would seriously affect the CR. If you want to increase the CR, you can nudge it up by +1, but in order to justify that you might want to up the damage to 1d6 or give it something else.

I was thinking D4 damage as well. It would only be 28 bones though, as thumbs only consist of two bones. What should the adjusted CR be for an wakened undead (spell from Libris Mortis) be?
