Skill Focus: Linguistics?

So my Half-elf(?) is getting Linguistics as Skill Focus. What I want to know is whether I get to learn 3 languages due to the feat or not: ie, is the +3 considered Ranks as far as languages is concerned?

If not, I'll pick something else (maybe Diplomacy, maybe Heal).

New languages are gained only with new ranks. However, Skill Focus is very useful now due to new skill system.

ruemere's right, you only get languages with ranks. Check with your GM though, I'd be willing to grant a bonus language to a player who took Skill Focus (Linguistics).

Agreed. Rule 0 (the one about game being your own) remains in force.

Also, note that Linguistics have two more important uses:
- Decipher Script
- Forgery

Try to build your character around these two. One of my finest NPCs is an expert with maximized Linguistics and Use Magic Device. Suffice to say, he is as likely to wield Holy Avenger as to cast spells from scrolls and wands.
