skill focus?

I don't know why people think noone take Skill Focus. It's a boring underpowered feat, but it's a prerequisite for Loremaster and Archmage. (Not on the same skill, though, sadly.) My gnome wizard has taken SF: Knowledge (Arcana).

And, on the same topic, I know a dwarf fighter who's taken Toughness. He'll want to become dwarven defender.

i think the thing that bothers me most about making Skill Emphasis a talent of the Dedicated Hero is that it is totally off-limits to ordinary NPCs (in the game-mechanical sense).

in 3e and Star Wars d20, Skill Focus / Skill Emphasis was the most common feat i gave everyday joe-nobodies who didn't need combat-related feats (and i think we can all agree there aren't that many non-combat feats out there).

I think they tried to have feats that give bonuses to two skills to replace skill focus. And adding skill Emphasis as a feat will not hurt the game in anyway.

i'd still be leery about adding Skill Emphasis as a feat because i don't want to steal the Dedicated Hero's thunder.

maybe if i could find something to replace Skill Emphasis in the Insightful talent tree, then i'd feel better about making it a normal feat.
