Skill Trick once per Encounter

Unles otherwise noted, a skill trick can be performed only once per encounter (or once per minute, for scenes that don't involve combat or other conflict).

I would agree. Once per trick per encounter. The only problem with that is defining 'encounter'
The same way you do it when using barbarian rage, I guess. Mostly it seems to be "when the DM is counting initiative".

I don't know how you run your encounters, but it's pretty obvious when ours are over. The piles of bodies and loot strewn about are pretty big indicators.

I guess it might be marginally ambiguous if your DM makes you roll for initiative once at the beginning of the entire campaign, and from there on out you're never out of that fight. But then you've got other problems to deal with...

You are just too vicious. What ever happened to "another tea ceremony" encounter?

If it's anything like the L5R tea ceremony encounters that occured when I was running it, then the piles of bodies and loot strewn about are pretty big indicators that the tea ceremony is finished.

For combat encounters, I've always considered it standard to count rolling initiative as the start of the encounter, and dropping out of initiative as the end. I think that definition may be in the DMG somewhere.
