Skirmish and the scout.

Asmo

First Post
I´ve a question about this ability:when reading the description I envision it as that the scout moves 15 (or ten feet) feet and while running he fires the bow and then running another 15 feet and completes his move.

Or do the scout have to move at least 10 feet ( I know about the errata ), fire the bow, and that´s it?

If it´s the first option, how do skirmish interact with Shot on the Run?

And finally, anyone knows why they issued errata in the first place? Was there some exploit?

Skirmish doesn't change move and standard actions. In game terms, you move, then shoot. Shot on the Run is therefore very handy for the ranged scout.

As I suspected, good to know.

Yes. Mounted archers can make full attacks while their mount makes a single, double, or even running move. (See PHB 3.5 pg. 157.) So while your normal Scout can move, say, 40' and make one ranged attack with a skirmish bonus, a mounted Scout on a light warhorse could move 300' and take a large number of attacks with the skirmish bonus, taking full advantage of his Rapid Shot feat (and, presumably, his Mounted Archery feat, without which the attack penalties are horrendous instead of just nasty).

I dont believe a scout can do that, because as I recall, (based on the errata) a scout cannot apply skirmish damage while mounted.

edit - further, because the scout cannot apply skirmish while mounted, and he must move at least 10 feet from his original position before attacking, he cannot apply skirmish to iterative attacks either (e.g. rapid shot).

That's why he said "could" - past tense - because it's something the scout was able to do until the errata.

I understand it was powerful, but still! Genghis Khan's horde was pretty much a real-life example of this tactic abused to perfection. I guess what it all comes down to is....I want my Mongol mounted skirmisher! :)
