Slaads

In the new MM, the green slaad has a level adjustment of +7. The gray slaad, which has more special abilities and looks generally cooler, has a level adjustment of +6.

Am I missing something obvious? Why does the more powerful creature have a lower LA?

Keep in mind those level adj. are in addition to the monster's HD. See the section on level adjustments in the 3.5 MM.
