Slaine is impressive

Slaine is indeed an impressive series within both Heavy Metal and 2000 A.D. It is very violent and yet the story outweighs the violence. Does Bizley still handle the artwork?

Jason

I don't see Bizley's name in the art credits.

How much can you incorporate into a standard D&D game that isn't usingthe Slaine world?

Good question...
I think most of it, if you do a few tweaking in your standard D&D classes.

That's much more difficult. The classes and races would work if you want a little different feel. Te magic system would be hard to use as you'd have to covert all the PHB spells to Slaine style, or give all the Slaine spells levels and classes. I am going to be adopting the divination stuff, though. So it can be done. The feats can be used, but some will be very powerful in a higher magical world. For instance their's a feat the doubles the AC bonus from shields. In the world of Slain where warriors disdain wearing armor and there are few magical shields that is fine. However in a standard game, this feat would allow a +5 large shield grand +14 AC bonus, and that's way too good. The monsters would workd well, but again they need CRs.

As you can see there is stuff that can be used, however one really needs to sit down and make it work for them a little more then most products.

Did you say that there are no CRs for the monsters? How is xp determined then? Is it like the Wheel of Time or Star Wars or something?

No CRs. One adventureing style is for characters to go out only during certain seasons of the year, and the suggest people gain a level once a year (while that might sound wierd it makes sense for this game and the way the tribes are set up). Another suggestion is to reward 1000 or 2000 xp per game session. While they have good reasons for doing this and I understand where they are coming from, I think it may cause problems in an extended campaign.

Well, I finally got my copy today. And I have to say... I agree with everyone on here. This is one of my better d20 purchases...

Love the evil Cernunnos-type.
