Slashdot reviews DMG II

I went through this today. I decided against it in favor of a Dungeon Crawl Classic and the Adult Swim Meatwad Aqua Teen Hunger Force plushie.

Now, Meatwad watches down upon me, inspiring me to greatness! :)

I hear you on the Dungeon Crawl Classics. :)

While you were typing that, I ordered DMG II, Lost Empires (FR), and Strangers with Candy seasons 1 & 2 at Amazon.com. Yeah. I'm weak.

I am enjoying my copy of the the DMGII. Definitely glad I picked it up!

Likewise, and I've been doing this goofy time wasting, money eating hobby for 20 years now. It seems to be written in a more "user friendly" fashion making it a less dry read than the DMGI. And while I think I'm a pretty good and fairly competent DM and player, it's actually making me think more about my style of DMing than I have in a long time.

Yep, it sure is. It actually has a warmth to it that is rarely evident in WotC's books. Not quite Gygaxian, but it's a definite move in the right direction in making the game friendlier and more accessible. It's proving to be a good, solid read.

Yeah, I can see that. I've been getting the same feeling. Kinda makes me chuckle when I see all the critics at the linked review crowing about how their "mad 1337 DMing skillz" makes this book not only unnecessary, but an outright insult to them - "why, I used to walk five miles to my game sessions in ten feet of snow, uphill both ways! Books?!? We didn't need no stinkin' books! We just passed the rules down by oral tradition and used pine cones for dice!"
