(Slightly OT) Stable-owners and junk.

Hi!

Just looking for some ideas: If you own a horse, you have to have a place, where you can leave it, while you have other things to do. So, you might rent a box in a stable (buying a stable might be too expensive .)
...so, if you were the stable-owner you might not want to clean up all the dirt, those horses from other people leave in your stable.
My question: Which actions can you think of to make those people clean up the dirt, their horses leave behind, WITHOUT simply increasing your prices for the stable-boxes?

All input is welcome...

A stable owner with chiildren would likely have their kids clean out the stalls as part of their chores. :)

Getting off the dung is not the problem, you can sell it to a farmer. But keeping the stall clean from all the dirt of the horse hoofs or the riders boots carried from the box or the training arena - you need an army of cleaning personal.
So, let all the horse owners watch each others. If someone won't clean the dirt he caused, the others are allowed to write his name in a list. End of the month, the person most named on the list has to clean the stable on the weekend. Soon everybody will leave the stall cleaner than his own house! :D

If this is a somewhat realistic medieval setting, a good riding horse is very expensive, both to buy and to feed. Meanwhile, there are plenty of very poor people around. Ergo, the added cost of hiring someone to clean the stable is neglible.

In modern terms, imagine owning a Rolls Royce but being unable to afford to pay someone to sweep out the garage.
