Sling v Boomerang

Not in Complete Warrior, Races of Stone, or Races of the Wild. But it is in Oriental Adventures.
That's right. No where close to where I thought. It's in Arms and Equipment Guide, page 6.

I very much prefer non-setting material, sorry. :heh:

Talenta boomerange is not exotic to a Talenta halfling.
Right, it's a martial weapon. Which doesn't solve the problem of it being worse than the sling, which is a simple weapon.

Being trained to use a bastard sword correctly requires much more time and dedication (feat) than being able to dish out deadly force with an assault rifle. Not everything will be, or need to be perfectly balanced.

I... dont' really get your point. That's why there aren't assault rifles in D&D. They don't fit balance-wise, unless you do something drastic, like require a bunch of feats for it.

And I'm not sure where you get the impression it can be used as a club, but I imagine a lot of GMs would allow the boomerang to be used like a small club. It's still supposed to be a thrown weapon, though. Attack someone next to you via melee might be like using a bow as a club or staff.

Ever been hit by one?? :) They hurt even if hand held, and the curve gives the same weight and feel as a kukri.

Heh. ;) I mean mechanically. I don't disagree with the flavor of the boomerang, just the mechanics.

I would simply like to take this opportunity to mention that the aboriginal people were smart enough to know that they did NOT want the weapon to come flying back at them, and thus, the first boomerangs did not return.

Also, why not both? It's not like the sling costs anything. Or weighs anything.

What do you mean 'why not both'? The sling seems like a far superior choice, eventhough it costs much less and doesn't require a feat. I don't know why anyone would choose the boomerang as an exotic weapon. It's as if they don't want you to take it.

It seems like a lot of weapons and armor in the non-core books are exotic. Does anyone actually take the feats for these? A lot of them don't seem worth it.
