Small Publishers on RPGNow

Looks like another tempest in a teapot! At least this thread and the other one that linked to it made me go have a look at rpgnow. Any publicity is good publicity. I guess the platinum vendors are the new hotness. Nothing looks different to me.

The Sticky is dated 9/22 and the decision was made 9/23. Sounds like a shoot first and ask questions later type of decision.

Absolutely.

...And Commies are using dupes commanded from orbital mind-control satellites to undermine the Moral Fibre of the country by flouridating our water supply, too.

Wow. This and other threads elsewhere on the same topic are probably great examples of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

So many RPGnow vendors posting again and again, when numerous requests have been made asking them to ignore these threads for the time being, until formalized, finalized information is made available...

We must defend our precious bodily fluids.

I'll be interested in hearing the details of this when it's worked out. Any idea when that will be? Until then, my breath (and the bodily fluids I might otherwise exhale) shall be bated.

concurring Stephens opinion of the current clutter on RPGNOW and how splitting the product base is a good thing for me as a customer, for doing searches and having more visibility for the smaller products.

I'm sitting on my hands when it comes to judging this one. Discussing only in a private forum, where the customers have no input? Mistake. Trying to get this thread closed/deleted so that the public cannot be informed, especially when as Morrus said this is a NEWS site? Mistake. Don't you know that it's the job of news people to find out things "Big Brother" doesn't want the public to? It was only a matter of time.

The idea itself? It has benefits, it has drawbacks. I'll sit this one out and wait until an official press release occurs before I preemptively judge RPGNow or develop a bias for/against them. I've shopped there in the past and have been satisfied, and will assume for now that they will serve the greater good in any changes they may make.

The official announcement has some things that don't look so good
(flat statement of top 100 publishers which is contrary to what some in this thread insisted),
and some that seem good and optimistic ("The Power in YOUR Hands–Designed with the customer in mind, the new RPGNow allows the customization of our interface to suite your needs. These advanced features will allow you to find what you want, how you want." Could well be a way to actually look through both at once. I'm hoping.).
I will now hold my breath until we see the results. I'm hoping to see that I don't have to look at both sites when searching for a type of product. I'm also hoping that there will truly be a redesigned interface with better categorization and searching, and not simply them removing much of the product from the lists and making it look "pretty".

Now that the press release has been made, I'd be interested to hear what others think - particularly those who said they'd wait until such an official annoucement was made.

I'd also like more vendors to sound off about it. Although, I don't expect to hear much dissent from vendors - I can imagine soon-to-be-mainsite vendors won't want to say anything negative for feel of being shuffled off "to the Edge", and soon-to-be-Edge vendors won't want to say anything negative for fear of being further segregated. I'm not saying that there is any coercion or threats going on... I'm just saying that these are natural fears to have in such a business relationship.
