Smallville-Season 7-Kara. 10/2007

It is the fake deaths that bug me. Remember when that one girl got blown up during the season finale only to find out in the next season that it was planned to make everyone think she was dead? It's been done twice now.

Lois has died, only to return. Lana has died what...six times?

Each season ends on a cliffhanger and like all the cliffhangers from the classic pulp era the good guys and villains always seem to survive. It bugged me a little in the early seasons but now I know it is just the way the show is and it's going to happen as long as they have more seasons.

Thinking about it, I think they have a strong enough cast that they could end a season with a "Death of Superman" moment. The next season could be spent on bringing him back, with no appearances of Clark except at the beginning and end of the season. They could keep the actor employed by doing the "4 Superman" type storyline.

What could even be better is to only have Clark/Superman in flashbacks as each character goes through some of their favorite events that happened and deal with the Death of him. It would be awesome but no way they do that.

Especially since the rumors have been going around that the series is winding down.

Still, we have plenty of characters for character plotlines. We also have plenty of "superness" for the action plotlines (the Justice League, Martian Manhunter, Kara). They could easily run the series if Tom Welling wanted a year off for movies, personal issues, etc.

Those rumors have been around since the start of season 5.

I just don't see any TV show that would side line their lead actor for a year. That's just a risk no station would take.
