Smite Evil and Cleave

Legildur

First Post
Okay, what happens if a Paladin Smites Evil, hits and drops the creature and then Cleaves another evil creature - does he get the same attack bonuses and damage rolls? That is, does the Smite Evil bonuses continue for the Cleave?

What happens if the second creature is not evil?

Thanks.

1. Smite evil *only* ever effects evil guys.

2. When they say "with the same attack bonus" that doesn't include anything that only lasts for one attack, like true strike or smite evil, they just mean the same iterative BAB, then apply adjustments as usual.

The short & simple answer to your question is "no." Smite damage doesn't carry over on a Cleave attack, which also makes your second question moot.

A more interesting question would be, if your Paladin had multiple Smites per day could he expend one on a Cleave attack?

I'd say, sure...why not?

It lasts for one attack - and Cleaving is an additional attack.

He was asking whether you could use another Smite Evil for the cleave attack or not. I explained why not above.
