So... 3.5 is done in Dragon and Dungeon

I just saw the update on Wizards' website that they're not accepting submissions for the 3.5 ruleset any longer. Of course they'll have the stuff they need for the next issue, but now I guess 3.5 is truly history when it comes to official support...

Yep. That has been the plan all along.

Luckly there are now literally TONS of 3.5 material that keep dropping in price as time goes by. Your local gaming store would be happy to support your 3.5 game with backstock for many years to come. The idea that WotC is not supporting 3.5 is not painful when one realizes that 3.5 is already extremely well supported by existing material.

I'm not sure how well Dragon Roots is selling, but it's one small press alternative that I know of. And it's actually in print, which would put it ahead of 'Dragon', or what has become of that, at least to me and quite a few other gamers.

Paizo is continuing to put out very high quality products for 3.5. . . and soon for their own tweaked version of that ruleset, the Pathfinder RPG.

There are some smaller publishers still releasing material for it too, some of it also worth looking at, IMO.

4e hasn't really killed 3e, let alone any other system. And I doubt that it will.

Anyway, regarding Dragon magazine, there's Kobold Quarterly, as well. From their website's front page: "the spiritual successor to DRAGON Magazine" -- Erik Mona, DRAGON Magazine Editor. Sounds alright, eh?

Kobold Quarterly is an EXCEPTIONAL source of new 3.5 material. I'm a very happy subscriber. The designers writing for KQ are a short list of the best of Dragon and Dungeon anyways, along with some great new names whose talents are really proven by the moxy their articles show.

A bit ironically, despite WotC saying they won't be putting 3.5 content in Dragon anymore, there's a brand new 3.5 article up there now, about epic Binders. I'm quite happy to see it.

Now Wizards of the Coast can completely ignore my submissions for 4.0 instead of completely ignoring my submissions for 3.5.

Much as rejection sucks, even a form rejection e-mail is better than no response at all. :\

We're still accepting article submissions for D&D v3.5 (or GURPS, or Savage Worlds, or Cyberpunk, or any game system!) in the Knights of the Dinner Table magazine.
