Last night I had a player fall into the pit that the guardian comes out of in the penultimate Well of Demons fight.

What do you think should happen to her? I don't want her to just be gone and dead I want something "interesting" (insert rat-bastard DM laugh).

The character is a level 7 Half-elf Warlord who has spent some time in the feywild and has been through Keep on the Shadowfell, part of Thunderspire Labrynth and will probably be heading to Pyramid of Shadows if/when she makes it back to the party

So far I am have been loosely thinking;

It could be something abyssal or something to do with Maldrick Scarmaker?

There may be something the other party members have to do or sacrifice to get her back?

Let's hear those dastardly DM ideas.

My PC's are running through the Tests to get the four items, and once they've freed the Guardian Dragon, I'm thinking that he had a small hoard of coins and other objects down there, a dangerous but not entirely deadly drop down. The PC could land upon a pile of coins. Although they'd mostly be copper and silver coinage, with some near priceless art objects nearby. Or it could just be a floor leading to a series of passageways underneath the old temple, something to be explored later perhaps.

How is it a spoiler? I just mentioned the title of a place that would mean little to you unless you had read/run H2, which I did not mention in the title.

Hmmm.. I had not thought about it being mundane. I had presumed that there was something magical in nature that kept the guardian restrained or that he was summoned when activated.

Perhaps, given the Green Dragon, it could be a portal to a verdant swamp in the Feywild (sort of a pocket dimension)? This would explain why a Green Dragon was deep underground under a mountain. On the other hand, it is the Well of "Demons".

Maybe it could be an Abyssal "wormhole". A tunnel, through the Abyss, which has one end in the Labyrinth, and another end wherever the Dragon lairs. She could simply fall into a swamp. There are several a week's walk or so away from Thunderspire.

I myself, just to keep it weird, would have the shaft be a looped portal, with one terminus at the depths of the Well of Demons, and the other at the top of Thunderspire, where the Shadar-Kai witch dwells. Anyone entering the portal and moving "down" lands at the top of the mountain. Anyone entering it and moving "up" ends in the well of Daemons. The shaft can be accessed at several locations within the Labyrinth, one of which happens to be the lair of the Green Dragon. This way, the shaft is sort of an extradimensional dumbwaiter. Assume that the exit at the Shadar-kai end is too small to allow a dragon to fit through (maybe only medium creatures). When she falls "down", she can interact with the witch (who doesn't have to be a combat encounter). To get out, she can either navigate through the Labyrinth back to the Hall (possibly even beating the party back there), or find some way to ascend in the shaft (flight, levitation, climbing the walls) and end up back at the bottom.

Well, personally I would rule it a bottom-less pit and say sorry but you're dead. But if you want a really rat-bastard idea . . .

The pit drops the character into Baphomet's section of the Abyss. Schedule a one-on-one session with the player. Have them fall into a the dragon's lair, deep inside Baphomet's maze - let her explore and try to avoid capture as long as possible, but eventually, at that level, the demons are going to catch her. Drag her before a high-level demon of some sort, and have the demon extract her soul and put it into a gem. Have the demon inform her that she lives or dies at the demon's whim, and that the demon is going to return her to the world to serve it. Explain that no matter what the character does, she will spend her afterlife in torment. Serving the demon simply allows her to postpone the inevitable. The demon says that she'll know when it needs something. Return her to the world. Let her stew for a long time. Then have an imp pop up at the worst possible time and inform her of what the demon requires of her in some certain situation.

If she manages to survive and placate the demon long enough, eventually they have a high-level quest to go and get her soul back from the demon. :)

Of course, it would probably be kinder to simply kill her, but you asked for rat-bastard ideas . . .
