So a Commoner gets a Wish granted...

Long story short.
There was a war.
A HUGE war against Devils and a LE Kingdom.
Lot's of men went to war.
From one specific town, only two survived.
The dead ones cannot be raised.
Their families are alright.
They are NG or maybe N in alignment.
They get both granted a wish by a powerful Arcangel

Not necessarily the PHB's Wish but like a very powerful wish.
Some of the Players also got granted the wish and asked for:
A Gold Dragon Egg to raise
A Celestial Pegasus to ride
The ability to "see" other peoples emotions
A Very Special Wand (he borrowed and needed to return it)

So...
If you were the commoner (who could be an Expert, a Warrior, you decide)

What would YOU wish for??

I'd wish for a magical hoe. A hoe I could use any time I wanted. It'd be my hoe, and nobody else's. I might let someone else use my hoe, but they'd have to pay me, and make sure my hoe came back clean. There ain't nothin' worse than a dirty hoe.

I'd wish for some adventurers to fight a dragon within a stone's throw without harming the town or its people. Then I'd throw a stone at the dragon, therefore helping with the battle, therefore gaining a boat-load of experience points.

Realistically, though?

Hm... I suppose I'd wish for fortune in future exploits... crops, trading, and random encounters would all be tilted in the favor of the town.

I'll toss out some ideas brainstorming style and see if anything grabs or inspires you....

Enough wealth to last a lifetime without ever working again.

No man to ever die in war again.

Someone to take care of all the village's widows and orphans.

No weapons to ever again be forged in the land that started the war.*

No menfolk to be born in the land that started the war.*

A horrible and long-lasting plague to be visited upon the land that started the war.*

Everything the wisher touches to turn to gold.

To be heralded in songs sung across the many lands.

To never again have to watch as people the wisher knows are slaughtered.

Abundant crops, and a long life free of disease and sorrow.

To be *really* attractive to the survivng female population of the village.

For all leaders of all nations to know the true pain of war as a deterrent to them ever waging it again.

For the village and an area covering all the farms around it to be a zone where no violent actions may be taken.

To be an all-knowing sage who powerful adventurers, kings, and even the gods themselves consult for advice.

The world's largest collection of hats.

A lifetime's supply of the best ale ever brewed.

To know what the meaning of life is.

To be able to cast spells.

Something else that radically alters the nature of reality for the worst and that the PCs then have to undo.

*Assuming the land that started the war isn't the one the commoners in question are from.

It was a devil war, right?

I'd wish for a token that would prevent devils from ever stepping foot in the village again.

Of course, it's best if the token were somehow fragile, or needed regular care or feeding. That way you have all sorts of excuses for a plot hook. And it gives the devils a chance to use their human followers to steal it or otherwise confound it.

I really like this one. Like an uber enlarged cirlce protection (evil), permanent and centered in the very center of town. They could hide it in a statue idolizing one of the commoners who survived or hidden inside a fountain that always produces cystal clear water. Very cool idea.

looking at cybertalus's list... I would love to be the DM for those. Especially the "No man to ever die in war again". That would be quite interesting.

I recently had an adventure where people's wishes started coming true. Like, all of them. We had a lot of people dying of horrible disfigurements, teenaged boys turning into girls and dying of shock, buildings collapsing when they turned to gold, and lots of sex, all over the place.

So I'd wish for something safe, like a permanent fly spell. That'd be fun.
