I tend to just sound these out as i go from the spelling "Icks it zack it'll" but I've never used or encountered one.

My gut feeling tells me that the original pronunciation was a bastardization of the Latin root ickthuis or ickthyuz. Of course, /icks-it-ZACHIT-tyl/ is as close as we'll probably ever get to the unknown original pronunciation.

Appendix G (p. 238-243) of the Dragon Compendium features a lengthy (and quite handy) "PronunseeAYshun Gyd." It lists Ixitxachitl as "ik-ZIT-za-chit-ul."

When I started the thread that was linked a few posts above, I wanted to create a master pronunciation guide. I finally got my hands on both the old & new PronunseeAYshun Gyd articles but I never had the urge to update that thread. There's a crapload of words in that article!

I've never encountered one as a player nor used one as a GM. I suspect the difficulty in pronunciation is a contributing factor to this.
