So how many settings came out of the Search?

I could have sworn there were a handful. But my memeory aint whjat it used to be. For some reason I thought Midnight was part of the search, too.
As others have said no it wasn't but I'm quite happy it wasn't part of the search as there are way to many grays and blacks in that bleak world for it to be used mainstream by WotC. Basically, WotC would have dumped it and not published it.

(Of course that's all my opinion.)

I'd be very curious to see what the two finalists were also, but that material of theirs now belongs to WotC, so who knows when we'll see it.

I'm one of the 11; I have some plans to use the setting I submitted, but I haven't pushed it yet.... been working on unrelated projects for the Wanderer's Guild.

Aye, out of curiosity do you, or anyone else; know if they got reimbursed for their work, since they lost there rights and all. :)

Very cool. :) I'll keep an eye out for it, and your other works, do you care to suggest briefly what your world was like? :)

Yes, the top 3 were paid $20,000 for their entries.

Congrats, MissHappen! :)

You know, one of the ideas behind the Setting Search was to find a setting that could act as a backdrop for roleplaying games, novels, computer games or ... card games, right? We might actually see the other two finalists as a Magic the Gathering block instead of a RPG brand...

I cant remember the details, but I think another of the 11 finialists posted here a while back in a similar thread and said he was going to publish his world for a non-d20/OGL RPG...

from that thread:

The list so far is:
1 - Eberron (winner; published by Wizards of the Coast)
2 - ? (finalist; not able to disclose)
3 - ? (finalist; not able to disclose)
4 - Morningstar (published by Goodman Games)
5 - Dawnforge (published by Fantasy Flight Games)
6 - Sunset Kingdoms/Alfar Tower (being self-published)
7 - Cappedocio (under development; no publishing deal)
8 - ?
9 - ?
10 - ?
11 - ?

Goldleaf games will be publishing CODE OF UNARIS, which was one of the 11, as a non-D20/non-OGL game. The game will be intended to be played by internet chat, using a new system designed for that purpose.

Goldleaf will be at GenCon, and will be giving away 100 copies of the rulebook.
