So how much does WotC get out of you per year?

How much Wizards stuff do you buy?

I have seen a WHOLE lot of folks saying this recently, myself included. Are we collectively getting fed up with the endless stream of miniatures from Wizards? Some good quality, some absolute overpriced crap?

I think the quality keeps getting better. I'm not nearly fed up with their minis (only their minis team).

Can't speak to D&D minis, but the quality of the Star Wars minis have been pretty good, with the possible exception of the Starship Battles line, which has been hit or miss.

My purchases vary a lot. Last year, I bought two books, the spell compendium and tome of battle, for $45. The previous year I bought nothing. This year I'll probably spend between $50 and $100 because I'm really looking forward to Star Wars Saga Edition, and might buy the magic item and rules compendiums.

If you include other RPG books, I probably spend about $250 per year - typically 3 Ars Magica books, two or three M&M books, two or three white wolf books, and one or two interesting indie books.

Since they yoinked the E-Tools license from CMP, my interest in getting new WotC books has taken a serious nosedive. I still pick up a few singles from the minis lines in the after-market, and I will take a look at the new Star Wars stuff when it comes out. But I think, unless something comes along that really takes me by surprise, I may have bought my last D&D rules book for quite some time.

Adventures will be judged on a case-by-case basis, and of course Paizo will keep getting money from me as long as Dungeon magazine continues to be awesome.

I voted less than $50. I haven't bought any WoTC stuff in a long time. What I do buy tends to be the occasional miniature. But I tend to buy the ones that the FLGS has isolated and are selling as a single. So, technically, that money goes to the FLGS, not WoTC. Since, in a way, I'm buying them "used". But that's a nitpicky point, I suppose. I don't even buy $50 worth of miniatures, really. I probably spend more on Reaper figs than WoTC figs anyway.

When I buy books, they tend to be Necromancer Games' products over WoTC ones. If I do buy a WoTC book, I get them on Amazon.

My decision has nothing to do with the price hike or quality issues. I just have way too many miniatures. I've been buying these things since Archfiends and I can barely carry them from session to session anymore.

That's.... bad.

I think it's around 3-4 hardcovers most years since 3.5 came out. I usually get the monster book, at least one "big" release (UA, PH2 etc) and at least one quirkier thing (Magic of Incarnum, Book of Nine Swords) in a given year. Lately it might be more with WotC starting to do adventures again. I round out the $100-200 I cited with older products gotten at a discount, especially now that I'm in a place where Half-Price Books does business.

I get more third-party stuff than WotC stuff but it's a far closer race than it once was. That says more about how much less third-party than how much more WotC I'm buying, but both are factors.

The Harbinger/Dragoneye stuff is far lower quality than Dragon Queen/Blood War/Unhallowed. Aside from the shoddy paint jobs on War Drums, the minis get better and better, I think.

It's not just Harbinger/Dragoneye vs. the rest: I think it's a steady progress that weant upward until Underdark. Then came Wardrums and its ridiculous quality (I'm still not sure whether that was gross incompetence or intentional), but after that, the quality went up again.

I couldn't caryy them from session to session at all. It's a bit over 3000 minis now.

But the same can be said for my books, and thus we play in my Dungeon, anyway. That way I have access to all my books and minis without breaking my back (when I played in other places, there was often the problem that I carried a heavy load of books and still had to leave stuff behind, and I only had the minis for the main characters.)
