So I want to use D&D (Greyhawk) Spells in Dragonbane...

I'm thinking 5e here, but really any edition. My initial thought is that tbe schools would need to be changed to Bardic, Druidic (Animism), Divine, Sorcery, Wizardry and Summoning (Warlock), and then use Dragonbane examples to alter the original spell effects. Everything else about the Dragonbane system would remain. Cantrips translate pretty well to Magic Tricks. Maybe I'll just start with a spreadsheet and map the spells as best I can.

Has anyone given it a try? Ideally I'd like to be able to use any 5e asventure and do a pretty close conversion.

I have not. I just started reading through the dragonbane rulebooks (because of a Kickstarter for Magnamund/Lonewolf which will be an extension of those rules). Haven't given it a though how one would transfer D&D characters or ideas between the two rulesets.

Actually in looking at it more closely, it seems I'd need to map the more basic schools of magic rather than worry about class.

AbjurationPrevents or reverses harmful effects
ConjurationTransports creatures or objects
DivinationReveals information
EnchantmentInfluences minds
EvocationChannels energy to create effects that are often destructive
IllusionDeceives the mind or senses
NecromancyManipulates life and death
TransmutationTransforms creatures or objects

Now to just figure how spell levels would map. I'm guessing higher than Level 5 spells won't be used too often.

I am using Dragonbane on Roll20. I can copy a spell then modify it to whatever I want it to be. I have been using BRP spells from Chaosium's many books. You can simply offer spells in the player's grimoire without having them associated with a school of magic other than the three in the Dragonbane core rules. My understanding is that there is going to be a magic book coming out from Free League, so a lot of this work will be done for you!

Yeah, looking forward to that book from Freeleague! I'd like to keep to the schools of magic model but adapt it a bit more to Greyhawk (and the many published modules), so I think the schools will work pretty well. There's already a lot of spells that carry over and I am sure I can adapt them. I just want to be sure to categorize them into the school and then use the Magic Talent (School) ability to allow characters to cross over. So if a starting Animist for example has spells from both Divination and Abjuration, I'd start them with the Secondary Heroic Abilities, Magic Talent (Divination) and Magic Talent (Abjuration).

The tricky part will be assigning them to Magic Tricks and Rank 1-3. Some of the D&D Cantrips don't really seem to fit the spirit of DB Magic Tricks.
