if you are playing as a team effort, "the groups hard earned loot" does indeed belong to "the group" and you divide as best for the future of the group with additional concern for character concepts and in a split decision who "deserves it more".

Ok, if you put it that way it seems like a good idea  I was just here thinking if the forsaker even joined the group, since they rescued him and he wasn't seen again..

well, obviously this particular situation was well and truely screwed up... I was more thinking in terms of why he could have expected a share had the dm integrated his character properly...

I would never allow a forsaker when I'm a DM, nor play one or let one live if one try to join the party when I'm a PC.

Even as a short term character? that sounds like a very limiting way to play. The class can certainly be played in a more personal way (I will not use magic or allow it to be used on me, and will try to lead others by example, but acknowlege that many people still have the crutch of magic...) than the 'kill all magic users' type, and they are under no obligation to destroy every magic item they can lay hands on regardless of ownership...

I don't know how it would work out long term, but at the level he was playing, a forsaker could be a viable expereince...

The DM sounds like a two year old.

We've only heard one side of the story. Personality conflict is IMO a good reason to get rid of a player. The DM could've handled it better, though.

IIRC, the forsaker MUST regularly destroy magic items or lose his power. You may accept one for one or two days, but then he will start to be really crippling for the party ability.

It sounds to me like there is enough guilt to go around. The player shouldn't have been reading an unrelated book at the table, nor arguing with the DM. The player should have showed up for the game unless it was previously arranged. The DM should have been clear and upfront about his feelings instead of being passive-aggressive. The DM should not have allowed the Forsaker if he was going to then turn around and be a jerk about it in game. The other players should have made sure that all PCs had appropriate equipment, even if it meant giving some of their loot away.

I'd say, DarkCrisis, that you should use this unfortunate situation as a learning experience. Find a group you fit in better with, that has a grown-up for a DM. But also work on being a more considerate player. I really hope you end up in a group like mine, which is the best I could wish for anyone. Everyone gets along, is respectful, and best of all, we have a great time!

This DM sounds like a real ass. I DM and play about 50/50, and I think thumbing through the rule books while playing is almost expected behaviour. When the DM is holding a conversation with one of the other players, or you're waiting for your turn between combat rounds, I don't see what's wrong with trying to amuse oneself. I have learned that hard way that watching TV is too distracting for players, even if they put the football game on mute...

I say try and find a better group. You don't need these guys killing your character while you aren't there, and then not letting you play a new character.

And regarding the person who said that maybe the DM was just making the player deal with the problems of being a forsaker in game. He started with a frickin magical adamantium chain around his guy's neck. If these guys aren't close friends, I know I wouldn't come back after that.
