So, Whatever Happened to Fafhrd and Greymouser?

Gary and Fritz were friends. They corresponded, and even met on a few occasions. Fritz even played a few games of D&D in the early days. The two agreed on a Lankhmar setting for D&D fairly quickly. It was when Gary got booted from TSR than the company lost the lankhmar license. Because, in case you're wondering, it was a private agreement between two friends, not between Lieber and TSR.
Hmm... there was plenty of Lankhmar stuff that was put out during 2e.

Well...I initially liked Wheel of Time...but after book 8 (Path of Daggers) proved to be so..medicore compared to Dragon Reborn or even Fires of Heaven, I was pretty assured "This isn't for me any more." Same is true for Goodkind's Sword of Truth and to a lesser extent, Harry Potter.

Now it's more Gregory Keyes' Kingdom of Bone series (I believe that's the title of the series, I just know the book Titled like the Briar King, The Charnel Prince and most recently the Knight of the Blood), Bakker's Prince of Nothing, and especially now Steven Erickson's Books of Mazalan the Fallen.

In any case nothing can replace my love of Ffardh and Grey Mouser. Two best thieves of all time. (Well next to Shadow spawn anyway. ;) )

The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone.

There's a lot of *really* good fantasy out there at present. (Stephen Brust, to add another name).

Cheers!

Or is it because you dislike MRQ in general?
I'm admittedly not nuts about Mongoose, their version of RQ, nor their marketing/publishing model for their version of RQ. The preview art for the new Lankhmar book is also... enh.

So, I'm biased. Read my postings about this subject in that light. :)

Yes that's the one. I liked Keyes earlier work but this series for me has a lot more going for it. Better characters, richer stories, and mostly just a sense of adult sensibilities with a child like eye for fantasy. Brust is alright but he's dimmed a little of late. Now the new Thomas Covenant series, that has me itching for the next book.

Hey everyone! I think George R R Martin & Robin Hobb are great! The great thing about the Fafhrd & Greymouser stories is that no matter how many times I re-read these stories they are always entertaining. Thanks Maester Luwin

The only F&GM I read was the Epic Comics miniseries, adapted by Howard Chaykin with art by Mike Mignola. Awesome stuff! Really inspired me when I illustrated a Lankhmar book for Mongoose.

I didn't notice any of your stuff in the preview, Claudio. I'm certainly hoping that's not you doing the cover (which hopefully is a placeholder).

I'm sure Mongoose is doing right by a lot of people; they're obviously making good money. I'm just not one of those people.
