OD&D So where did Basic D&D end up?

The Glen

Legend
Paladin/Avenger/Knight were just abilities that non-landed fighters could gain. There was also the Shamani from the Atruaghin, Dervish from Ylaruam, Spirit Shaman from Ethengar, Rake from Thyatis/Alphatia, Wise Woman from Northern Reaches and Elf Shaman from the Shadow Elves. Add in the crucibles and the humanoids from Orcs of Thar and that was 50+ more racial classes available.

After Mentzer left BECMI was finally ended in the 90's and the Mystara setting was shunted to 2nd edition, where it had some moderate success but was killed off after only two boxed sets, three adventures and some supplements of diminishing quality (the player's and DM's survival kits are especially reviled). Then you had the problem with all the boxed sets having those CD's you needed to play them and it was a dark time for TSR.
